Gauge: 4.5 stitches = 4” square in Stockinette Stitch using a #8 needle. You will be knitting this poncho in a worsted weight. Look for a yarn that gets 4 - 4.5 stitches per inch or 16 -18 stitches over 4 inches. This label is a good example of a yarn that is a good fit for this pattern.
